The evil snowy night of rehearsals
...its snowing here in sweden...
....
...I took my bike from work to the rehearsal room for tonights point zero gig, and I was exhausted when I arrived, deep snow all the way. Not a jolly day to be carrying about mother nature. At some point I might have been yelling at the snow.. well, It seemed to be the right thing to when it was fighting me like this.
..anyways, we rehearsed the the new songs today and finely tuned the song 'The Reckoning', making it more groovy and flowing, hippie words.. I know. ;)
So now we have the following repertoire:
1. Ruin
2. The Ride
3. A Secret Place
3. Unbeatable Foe
4. My Reason
5. The Kings Hall
6. Equilibrium
7. Merry-Go-Round
8. Spring to Life
9. Keep it True
10. The Reckoning
11. Rest Assured
12. Dream of You
We're in it for the ride ;)

Hell yeah - PoS is back!
Pain of salvation was my favorite band for a couple of year, I discovered them rather early in their career actually, with the 'concrete lake' album. I actually remember when I bought that album, I've heard so much good about this swedish band in the press so I just went out an bought it. When I got home and listen to it, I first felt like I had wasted my money on crap, yes for real. But then after several attempts something happened, I understood what they are about, I got used to Daniels singing as well. With some bands you just need some extra time...
That was then. After that album they released two amazing albums - 'Perfect Element pt 1' and 'Remedy Lane'. Two of my all time favorite albums actually. Such a inspiring sound, such a fresh sound and arrangement. A band with their own unique sound.
After 'Remedy' it went downhill though, Daniel seemed to get a bit of hubris and went political. The music lost the magic of the earlier records and I stopped listen to the band. Thinking that I will never hear any good music from these guys again.
Now they have recorded a new album, and I'm glad to say that I'm really psyched about it. The songs I've heard are really good and fresh. Like it was in their prime. They have a more raw-ish 70's sound on this album and I must say that I like it. I hope that the whole album sounds like this, their new video:

Point zero rehearsal - two new songs
Hey,
We had a rehearsal today again with the band. We tried out two new songs:
-Wake of Followers
-Dream of You
'Wake of Followers' is a heavy track with an extended instrumental section that we all enjoy very much. 'Dream of you' is almost the opposite, a soft track with simple instrumentation. It seemed like the guys like these new songs, which of course made me a happy camper, you never know, right?
Anyhow, the rehearsal went smooth, and we had a nice time.
Altough Wall-e seemed to loose a couple of snares all the time, none of us know where they actually went. Its a mystery. Maybe they woke up today and felt like they HAD IT, that it was time to leave. Maybe they went next door and joined a quite popband, no one knows really.
So if you see a couple of snare hits that seem to be a bit out of place and alone, please call wall-e. It might be one of his rather tight ones...

Pre-Mixing Point zero
Yes, today I actually started to organize all the drum tracks for 'my reason'. Even tried a few EQ settings and making buss channels for groups of tracks. So it will be easier to mix down the line.
When the pre-mixing of the drums and bass are done, I will start to record the guitars and arrange the orchestration.
More about this project during the coming week.

Point zero - Bass recorded!
Another session today with Point zero. Last time we did the drums, today it was Mackans time to record some kickass bass, which he did, in just a few hours. It went very well and we all got very satisfied with the result! Mackan rocks.
So now we have the drums and bass for the two songs, 'My Reason' and 'Unbeatable Foe'. AND now it's all up to me... to record guitars, mix, sing (!) and arrange keys/orchestrations for the two songs..
...but its all dear 'problems'...
Looking forward to getting these tracks down!
Until next time, rock your socks off!

Hogge - Uncle Sam
Now you can listen to the finished track:
Hogge has written the track, plays guitars and sings. I'm just in it for the solo ;)
Rock on!

Point zero continued..
Hojt!
We have started to tryout singers now with the band.
In parallel with the tryouts we will start recording bass for our two songs that we have already recorded drums for. The studio time is set for this coming weekend. So I need to prepare the tracks a bit until then. Hopefully we'll be able to finish these tracks pretty soon.

Best of 2009 - According to me
So.. now we've started the year 2010.. 2009 is no more. Last year I did a 'best of' for 2008, so I thought that I should make it a tradition. So here it goes, my nominees for the best 2009 releases.

Muse - The Resistance
Probably the album I've been listening to the most. A great album and one of their best ever, great songs that grow on you. Amazing production as well. The album sounds and feels fresh from start to finish!

The Devin Townsend Project - Addicted
Devin Townsend is a brilliant musician and producer and he always deliver good stuff. This album is easy, melodic, heavy, popish at the same time. The production is great as always and there is a lot of great songs on this album, that you'll hum a long to for a long time.

Mr Big - Live at Budokan
One of my favourite rock bands returned in 2009 - Mr Big. I missed their live show here in Sweden, but I hope I'll get another chance. Anyhow they released an live album, and it rocks!! The live sound is raw but its sounds just right for the band. Eric Martin (the singer) sounds a lot more mature and he surely has some problems with the higher stuff from back in the days, but that don't matter, they still rock like no other! I really like the new song 'Next Time Around' as well. Can I hope for a new studio album with these guys? ...that would be amazing, please? :)

Mew - No More Stories Are Told Today...
Besides having the longest album title ever, this is an amazing album from an amazing band. They take no safe trips here, they don't create music that's already been done. They are surely progressive, progressive pop. One of my favourite songs are 'Introducing Palace Players', which is oddly beautiful and unique. Great band, but I think it takes a few spins before you get into their strange music. I get very inspired when I listen to Mew. Don't miss out on this band!

Behemoth - Evangelion
The polish metal beast is back. Behemoth deliver one of their best, if not the best album to date. Raw, Brutal, Tight like no other. They have a organic flair to their sound that I really like, and the production is perfect for the band, simply amazing. Bruuuutal!

Freak Kitchen - Land of the Freaks
I've been listening to Freak Kitchen for many years now, but the first time I heard this album I didn't enjoy it that much really. Then after seeing them live I got really hooked, and now I can't stop listening to it. Cool hard-rock with a sense of humour and as always - amazing and original guitar playing.

Dave Matthews Band - Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King
Another old favorite band of mine - DMB, released one of their best albums this year. I really like their blend of instruments and groovy music. This album is filled with amazing songs all the way through and I have been listening to this album all year. One of the best during 2009 for sure.

Europe - Last Look at Eden
The first time I heard it I was not that impressed but now some of the songs has grown on me. I still think that the album is a bit uneven, but there are some really great song on this album as well. Cool that Europe is still going strong. Never seen them live actually, hope to do so soon!

Nile - Those Whom the Gods Detest
Another brutal metal album. Nile delivers brutality, Middle eastern atmosphere and musical tightness like no other band out there, hehe. Some of the songs are really catchy actually. Insane drumming as well. If you're into brutal metal, don't miss this cool release.

Alice in Chains - Black Gives Way to Blue
Alice in chains returned this year as well. A cool and dark album, thats been growing on me. Really like the atmosphere and sound on this album. Feels like we've been missing Alice in Chains. There is no band out there like em, really.
...thats my list for 2009.
Now I look forward towards a rich musical year of 2010!
Rock on!

DJ Earworm - Mashup of Top 25 Billboard Hits
DJ Earworm have made a really cool mashup of the top 25 billboard hits last year, I really dig this. Must have taken some time to get it all together. Brilliant!
