Twitter

..yeah, I use twitter now as well. Mainly I got this account because I wanted to keep track of some bands that frequently use twitter for their news, but sometimes I write something useless there as well.. :) The three last tweets are presented in the right column of this blog.

Here's a direct link to my twitter page - Lindbergmusic@twitter

A lot of music in the making right now, I'll be right back...

It's been a while...

..summer feels like over. Work is piled up. Some updates for now..

I've finished mixing the album for Hoggez, the album is on its way to the company now that will make 300 copies of it. The album have a total of twelve songs and I have produced, mixed and played some extra instruments on it, a lot of guitar solos as well ;)

Håkan/Hogge seems well satisfied with the result, which is always a treat.

I don't know if you noticed but I have uploaded another song on my first page as well. -> www.lindbergmusic.se

On this song I work with two of my music colleagues - Tomas Barkman (eletronic drums, synths and backing vocals) and Andreás Kornstad (Singer). The song is called 'Shadowed Black', and I like how it turned out, thanks for the help guys!

More news and music coming soon, and I hope to keep the updates more fresh as well.

Seven - A new project

Howdy,

I've been talking to a fellow musician (Tomas Barkman) for a long time about this project now, it feels like we share the same vision of what this could be. We have a few songs already, but they are still in a very early stages. Yesterday we started to look at what we had so far, and to see where to go from here.

The music will be heavy, electronic, ambient, industrial, dark and melodic. Pretty abstract, right? :)

I will post updates when we have travelled further into the project Seven.

MYSPACE (not much there yet though).

Wrote a song yesterday for this project, here's the lyrics:

Why?

Show me grace
Far from here
Don't you know
How far it's gone
A starlit place
Without disgrace
And without the shame
End of my rope

Set me free
and Burn my eyes
Rid my dreams
A witherd pulse
Hearts divine
With beats and rhyme
This heart of mine
Beating offset

Screams in heart and soul
Why the hell am I not
Claming back the throne
Why the hell I wonder

Scars in all of me
Why the hell am I not
Figthing back my ghost

No one cares
Nothing left
I don't mind
Cause I'm leavning
Turn your head
Look away
I'd destroy your world
With a glimpse of mine

Screams in heart and soul
Why the hell am I not
Claming back the throne
Why the hell I wonder

Scars in all of me
Why the hell am I not
Figthing back my ghost

Chris Cornell - Scream

I've always liked Chris Cornell, what a voice. His work with Timbaland is a bit different from previous Cornell stuff, but I like it. This is the title track as well as my favorite song of the album:

Amazing music - The Reign of Kindo

'Found' this band on spotify yesterday and I've been listening ever since. They are soooo cool. Amazing sound and musicianship. I was blown away. Later on I googled the band and found this youtube-video:

Hårgalåten/Horgalåten

Here's my version of the Swedish classic song 'Hårgalåten', it will fit perfectly to the midsummer snaps and festivities I assure you :) Couldn't help to make it 'mine' either, so there's a bit going on in the song. Hope you like it anyways.

It was recorded yesterday, added the video today. Found some Swedish people dancing on youtube, credits are found on youtube. I tried to 'time' the dancing to the music, it was hard, but I think I got close, the video is 30% slower in speed than the original.

You've Been Done Before

I been messing around with a song that's been stuck on my harddrive for a while now and I think it will fit Point zero, so I'm bringing it to the point zero rehearsal on wednesday to see what the guys think, and to see how it works out in a rockified state.

So.. the song is a bit odd, but I like that. It starts out in a pop/rock-Dave Matthews kind of style, with a simple three chord progression and a simple riff. Then in the middle of the song it visits a middle-eastern vibe and stays there for a while, then returning in joint forces for a last chorus.

Here's the current draft of my lyrics, might change as we rock on:

You've been done before

I try to make your world as mine
The world around has changed your sound
I try to change the course of time
Extract my flaws and extract my heart

It's hard to face it all, alone, astray and out of place
It will only bitter you..

Your sound is strange even in surround
Your soul is pale even in high def

It's hard to face it all, alone, astray and out of place
It will only bitter you..

It's alright
Cause it's all been done before
It's all the same and it's alright
Cause it's all been done before
You've been done before

(I don't think that the expression 'bitter you' is correct in english grammar, but I call on my artistic freedom for that :) ).

Who needs guitar and bass - Van Canto

I like the "guitars"... :)

Logix

We had another point zero rehearsal today, our weekly wednesday jam. Actually we seem to start each rehearsal with a spontaneous jam and I must say that we're getting better at it by each time.

So.. lets see, what did we do today. We played 'Merry-Go-Round' for the first time in a long time, and it was a bit rusty in our memory. But it all ended well I'd say.

I got some time to look into the two point zero songs that I'm mixing this week as well (loooooong overdue, sry guys), and yesterday I wrote a solo for 'My Reason'. I have a hard time mixing big projects as this now, because my computer aint that high-end. Getting all kinds of error messages from time to time. CPU overload seems to be the most frequent one, to say that it drives me mad sometimes is an understatement...

I'm also looking into a guitar tone for PZ, it's hard.. But I will get there.

I'm also writing the orchestral arrangement for 'Unbeatable Foe', which is a main part in that one.

...some other projects are on the way as well, but I'll keep them to myself for now.

Happy Rockin'

RIP DIO

The small guy with the amazing grand voice is no longer with us. I had the opportunity to see him live in Stockholm 2001 (I think it was). Rainbow, Sabbath (The Dio-era was always the best in my opinion), Heaven and Hell... all great music.

Amazing voice and an amazing legacy of music. Now he's jaming with Cozy Powell...

RIP

iRig - Guitar amplifier for your iPhone

I liked this little gadget for your iPhone, giving your phone that rock appeal :)
IK Multimedia have done guitar simulation for some time now, and I like their plugins for DAWs (Amplitube 3). So I'm guessing that iRig will work great and from this video demo, I must say that it sounds alright as well. Now I'll just have to wait until they make guitars that are small like my phone :)

Tesseract - Renewing metal

I've been listening to Tesseracts demo for some time now and I must say that this band feels like a breath of fresh air in the metal scene today. They have found their own sound, blending meshuggah-metal with atmosphere and melodies, its both heavy, angry and beautiful at the same time. I'm buying this album..

Point zero rehearsal - Mackan the songwriter

Just arrived home after an cool point zero rehearsal. I think it went rather well this evening, the guys rocked and it was fun playin', like it often is.

Anyhow, Mackan brought a song to the band today, his first. It rocked big time! We had a blast playin' it and we got a long way on arrangement and structure today, it worked out rather smoothly. He has also written lyrics for it, its called 'Rise and Shine'.

It will fit perfectly into the point zero song catalogue.

New lyrics - Shadowed Black

I'm working on a new song (amongst all the other stuff). It will once again feature Andréas Kornstad on vocals and I have asked Tomas Barkman to add his touch on it.

I will post the song as its done, but here are the lyrics for now:

Shadowed Black

Malicious thoughts
Spreading like a plague
Infesting our homes
(and) Feasting on scorn

By your vicious grace
The world is an evil place
(and) Mankind lost its face
The world is an evil place

Scavengers align
Preys fall down
Recoil kicks back
My napalm embrace

By your vicious grace
The world is an evil place
(and) Mankind lost its face
The world is an evil place

Come take me now
You take me now
Come take me now
You take me now
Come take me now
You take me now

Fates Warning - Parallels lineup

It seems like Fates warning have returned with their parallels lineup to play some shows this year. I own all Fates Warning albums and this lineup is my favourite, without the shadow of a doubt. Nice to see Mark Zonder behind the drums once more, and I could only hope for a new record with this lineup intact.

Fates Warning has written some really epic songs throughout their career. They are and will always be a great inspiration for me.

When Reality Bring Me Down - ft. Andréas Kornstad

Time for a new song. Posted the lyrics here before. This song features Andréas Kornstad on vocals, and he did a remarkable job!

I written the music and lyrics.

The lyrics has been changed a bit since last time:

When Reality Bring You Down

Light greets my eyes
In these fiery skies
I can hear the bell toll at the end of the line
Time takes us all
Even those who don't deserve to fall
And all my remorse - the scars that remain

I choose not to follow you - I'll find my own way
She tells I'm lost - this world ain't for me
My world falls asunder - then I start to wonder
When reality brings YOU down

Dark greets my eyes
In these endless skies
I loose my dreams in this world of no hope
I bring you lies
Death and the bitterness in cries
All I can hear - the tales how it ends

I choose not to follow you - I'll find my own way
She tells I'm lost - this world ain't for me
My world falls asunder - then I start to wonder
When reality bring YOU down

The things I'm left with
The dreams that follow
My path, a way out of here - mmm
and I wont tell them
What I am feelin'
Afraid of what they would do - if you'd know me too

No, I won't go there
If you will be there
I know you don't care - if I make it here
The lies you're telling
The screams and yelling
No, I won't stand here and fight - Like you'd know me too

Pete Peterson - Bugz

Howdy, slow on updates recently. Been sick and had a lot of work/projects/school. Had an exam last week that went well, even though I had fever. :)

I 'ran' across this cool project on the tube, that at least inspired me... The main dude is called Pete Peterson and he has teamed up with Travis Orbin (a great drummer) for this project, and the music sounds refreshing I must say. Strange stuff.

Zappa meets Devin Townsend.. or something.

The evil snowy night of rehearsals

...its snowing here in sweden...

....

...I took my bike from work to the rehearsal room for tonights point zero gig, and I was exhausted when I arrived, deep snow all the way. Not a jolly day to be carrying about mother nature. At some point I might have been yelling at the snow.. well, It seemed to be the right thing to when it was fighting me like this.

..anyways, we rehearsed the the new songs today and finely tuned the song 'The Reckoning', making it more groovy and flowing, hippie words.. I know. ;)

So now we have the following repertoire:

1. Ruin
2. The Ride
3. A Secret Place
3. Unbeatable Foe
4. My Reason
5. The Kings Hall
6. Equilibrium
7. Merry-Go-Round
8. Spring to Life
9. Keep it True
10. The Reckoning
11. Rest Assured
12. Dream of You

We're in it for the ride ;)

Hell yeah - PoS is back!

Pain of salvation was my favorite band for a couple of year, I discovered them rather early in their career actually, with the 'concrete lake' album. I actually remember when I bought that album, I've heard so much good about this swedish band in the press so I just went out an bought it. When I got home and listen to it, I first felt like I had wasted my money on crap, yes for real. But then after several attempts something happened, I understood what they are about, I got used to Daniels singing as well. With some bands you just need some extra time...

That was then. After that album they released two amazing albums - 'Perfect Element pt 1' and 'Remedy Lane'. Two of my all time favorite albums actually. Such a inspiring sound, such a fresh sound and arrangement. A band with their own unique sound.

After 'Remedy' it went downhill though, Daniel seemed to get a bit of hubris and went political. The music lost the magic of the earlier records and I stopped listen to the band. Thinking that I will never hear any good music from these guys again.

Now they have recorded a new album, and I'm glad to say that I'm really psyched about it. The songs I've heard are really good and fresh. Like it was in their prime. They have a more raw-ish 70's sound on this album and I must say that I like it. I hope that the whole album sounds like this, their new video:

Point zero rehearsal - two new songs

Hey,

We had a rehearsal today again with the band. We tried out two new songs:

-Wake of Followers
-Dream of You

'Wake of Followers' is a heavy track with an extended instrumental section that we all enjoy very much. 'Dream of you' is almost the opposite, a soft track with simple instrumentation. It seemed like the guys like these new songs, which of course made me a happy camper, you never know, right?

Anyhow, the rehearsal went smooth, and we had a nice time.

Altough Wall-e seemed to loose a couple of snares all the time, none of us know where they actually went. Its a mystery. Maybe they woke up today and felt like they HAD IT, that it was time to leave. Maybe they went next door and joined a quite popband, no one knows really.

So if you see a couple of snare hits that seem to be a bit out of place and alone, please call wall-e. It might be one of his rather tight ones...

Pre-Mixing Point zero

Yes, today I actually started to organize all the drum tracks for 'my reason'. Even tried a few EQ settings and making buss channels for groups of tracks. So it will be easier to mix down the line.

When the pre-mixing of the drums and bass are done, I will start to record the guitars and arrange the orchestration.

More about this project during the coming week.

Point zero - Bass recorded!

Another session today with Point zero. Last time we did the drums, today it was Mackans time to record some kickass bass, which he did, in just a few hours. It went very well and we all got very satisfied with the result! Mackan rocks.

So now we have the drums and bass for the two songs, 'My Reason' and 'Unbeatable Foe'. AND now it's all up to me... to record guitars, mix, sing (!) and arrange keys/orchestrations for the two songs..

...but its all dear 'problems'...

Looking forward to getting these tracks down!

Until next time, rock your socks off!

Monday, January 11, 2010

Hogge - Uncle Sam

Now you can listen to the finished track:

Hogge has written the track, plays guitars and sings. I'm just in it for the solo ;)

Rock on!

Point zero continued..

Hojt!

We have started to tryout singers now with the band.

In parallel with the tryouts we will start recording bass for our two songs that we have already recorded drums for. The studio time is set for this coming weekend. So I need to prepare the tracks a bit until then. Hopefully we'll be able to finish these tracks pretty soon.

A short solo for 'Hogge'

Helped a dude with a solo, the song is called 'Uncle Sam' and is written by 'Hogge'.

Listen to it:

Best of 2009 - According to me

So.. now we've started the year 2010.. 2009 is no more. Last year I did a 'best of' for 2008, so I thought that I should make it a tradition. So here it goes, my nominees for the best 2009 releases.

Muse - The Resistance

Probably the album I've been listening to the most. A great album and one of their best ever, great songs that grow on you. Amazing production as well. The album sounds and feels fresh from start to finish!

The Devin Townsend Project - Addicted

Devin Townsend is a brilliant musician and producer and he always deliver good stuff. This album is easy, melodic, heavy, popish at the same time. The production is great as always and there is a lot of great songs on this album, that you'll hum a long to for a long time.

Mr Big - Live at Budokan

One of my favourite rock bands returned in 2009 - Mr Big. I missed their live show here in Sweden, but I hope I'll get another chance. Anyhow they released an live album, and it rocks!! The live sound is raw but its sounds just right for the band. Eric Martin (the singer) sounds a lot more mature and he surely has some problems with the higher stuff from back in the days, but that don't matter, they still rock like no other! I really like the new song 'Next Time Around' as well. Can I hope for a new studio album with these guys? ...that would be amazing, please? :)

Mew - No More Stories Are Told Today...

Besides having the longest album title ever, this is an amazing album from an amazing band. They take no safe trips here, they don't create music that's already been done. They are surely progressive, progressive pop. One of my favourite songs are 'Introducing Palace Players', which is oddly beautiful and unique. Great band, but I think it takes a few spins before you get into their strange music. I get very inspired when I listen to Mew. Don't miss out on this band!

Behemoth - Evangelion

The polish metal beast is back. Behemoth deliver one of their best, if not the best album to date. Raw, Brutal, Tight like no other. They have a organic flair to their sound that I really like, and the production is perfect for the band, simply amazing. Bruuuutal!

Freak Kitchen - Land of the Freaks

I've been listening to Freak Kitchen for many years now, but the first time I heard this album I didn't enjoy it that much really. Then after seeing them live I got really hooked, and now I can't stop listening to it. Cool hard-rock with a sense of humour and as always - amazing and original guitar playing.

Dave Matthews Band - Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King

Another old favorite band of mine - DMB, released one of their best albums this year. I really like their blend of instruments and groovy music. This album is filled with amazing songs all the way through and I have been listening to this album all year. One of the best during 2009 for sure.

Europe - Last Look at Eden

The first time I heard it I was not that impressed but now some of the songs has grown on me. I still think that the album is a bit uneven, but there are some really great song on this album as well. Cool that Europe is still going strong. Never seen them live actually, hope to do so soon!

Nile - Those Whom the Gods Detest

Another brutal metal album. Nile delivers brutality, Middle eastern atmosphere and musical tightness like no other band out there, hehe. Some of the songs are really catchy actually. Insane drumming as well. If you're into brutal metal, don't miss this cool release.

Alice in Chains - Black Gives Way to Blue

Alice in chains returned this year as well. A cool and dark album, thats been growing on me. Really like the atmosphere and sound on this album. Feels like we've been missing Alice in Chains. There is no band out there like em, really.

...thats my list for 2009.

Now I look forward towards a rich musical year of 2010!

Rock on!

Thursday, January 7, 2010

DJ Earworm - Mashup of Top 25 Billboard Hits

DJ Earworm have made a really cool mashup of the top 25 billboard hits last year, I really dig this. Must have taken some time to get it all together. Brilliant!
